Peter Carney
Songwriter & Creative Artist
I was born in Thornaby on Tees, a small town located near Middlesbrough, in the year 1949. Growing up as the second youngest among a large family of 13 children, my childhood was filled with the vibrant and diverse musical influences shared by my older siblings. From an early age, I was exposed to a rich variety of sounds, ranging from the timeless classical legends such as Caruso and Gigli to the exciting and rapidly evolving pop music that emerged during the 1950s and 1960s. This unique blend of musical styles played a significant role in shaping my appreciation for music throughout my life.
I attended St. Patrick’s School located in Thornaby for my early education before I progressed to Billingham Technical College when I was 15 years old. This transition marked an important step in my academic journey, allowing me to build upon the foundation I had established at St. Patrick’s and develop new skills at the technical college.
During the 1980s, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet my future wife Tracey while I was performing with a country band known as ‘High Plains Drifter.’ In addition to my work with the band, I also pursued a solo career, performing under the stage name Reece Daniels. This period was a significant and memorable chapter in my life, blending both personal and professional milestones.
Unfortunately, due to persistent and serious medical issues affecting my voice, I was forced to make the difficult decision to retire earlier than planned, ultimately stepping away from my career in 2009.
I have two incredibly musically gifted sons, Dan and Reece, who both possess remarkable talents in their musical abilities. Their passion for music shines through in everything they do, making me very proud of their dedication and skill.
Although I am no longer able to perform on stage as I once did, music continues to be an essential and deeply meaningful part of who I am. Recently, I have discovered and embraced songwriting as a fresh and exciting creative outlet, allowing me to express myself in new and fulfilling ways through the art of composing lyrics and melodies.
